Road Safety

Part of our aim to create a safer Berkshire is to
reduce the number of deaths and injuries on our roads.
We are involved in a number of campaigns with other local organisations that aim to
educate people about road
safety and bring these figures down.
Statistically,
young drivers are the most at risk on our roads. They are more likely to kill or injure
themselves, their passengers and other road users in crashes. They often have a tendency to drive too quickly and
overestimate their driving ability, and can be vulnerable to peer pressure and risk taking.
RBFRS
actively works in partnership with other road safety organisations across the Thames Valley to
make young people aware of the dangers they may face as drivers and how to avoid them. These include “Motorwise”,
in conjunction with the Berkshire Association of Clubs for Young People; “First Gear”, which is accredited through the National
Association of Young People; and “Carwise”, in association with the Education Business Partnership.

We are also part of “Safe Drive, Stay Alive” - an innovative film and theatre event that explores the
circumstances that can lead to a road traffic collision and the consequences that follow.
This hard-hitting event brings home the real
dangers of careless driving in a very vivid way. For more

We believe that raising community awareness of road safety issues can literally mean the difference between life and
death. Together, we can
make Berkshire a safer place to live, work and travel in.
