Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Community Safety team delivers a
wide range of programmes
for children and young people. Examples of our current programmes are indicated below:
Young Firefighter
Young Firefighter meetings, which are sessions aimed at
11-17 year olds, take place every week
at four of our fire stations (these are currently held at: Crowthorne, Hungerford, Maidenhead and Whitley
Wood in Reading).
Phoenix and Evolution Projects
We run the Phoenix Project, a five-day team-building course for
13-16 year olds, and Evolution,
a groundbreaking project aiming to tackle anti-social behaviour amongst young offenders.
School Visits and StayWise
Firefighters and community safety staff regularly go into schools to talk to
children in Year 1 and Year 5
about fire safety. We also support other year groups, including
Foundation Years, through StayWise, our
action-packed interactive website. Click on
StayWise
for more information.
Road Safety
We are also actively involved in schemes aimed at pre- and young drivers. Click on the
road safety
link for more information about our work with young people in this area.
Sport and Health
Sport and healthy living are a key focus in our work with young people. We teach
Tag Rugby in primary
schools, and have recently piloted an accredited
angling course in Windsor as an after-school activity.
In the future, we hope to extend this across the county.
