Check Your Smoke Alarm
Did you know that you are more than four times as likely to die in a fire if you don’t have a working smoke alarm? Check your smoke alarm every week. Last year, 246 people died in house fires in the UK. However, one in three battery alarms fail to work in fires, usually because the battery was dead or intentionally removed.

Fire Kills logo Smoke detectors can give you precious extra time to get out of the house but they are completely useless if the batteries are missing or flat.

The best way to protect yourself and your family is to fit smoke alarms to every level of your home and test the batteries every week. Why not get into the habit this week and then make testing your smoke alarms part of your weekly household routine? Find out more about smoke alarms.

The Government’s Fire Kills campaign has recently launched a YouTube video to encourage people to test their smoke alarms. To view it, visit: click here.
