1. Fulltime (Wholetime) Firefighter

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service can offer you a satisfying, exciting and varied career as a wholetime (full-time) firefighter. (NB - Information on Wholetime Firefighter Recruitment can be found under the “Further Information Section” link at the bottom of this page).

There are, career opportunities for school leavers and graduates alike, although there is no “graduate entry” scheme. Like many organizations, we also draw from our existing employees for those considered suitable for promotion to the more senior positions, thus ensuring that we have people with a wide range of skills from which to select.

Fighting fires can in fact be just a small part of everyday work. Firefighters are called to advise on fire safety, but when they are called to a “shout” they could be dealing with any type of major or minor disaster: road, rail or air crashes; floods; chemical spills or rescuing people trapped in lifts or other confined spaces. This requires a range of personal skills such as understanding, reliability, flexibility and the ability to work in a team.

We employ 500 wholetime firefighters based primarily across our 10 wholetime stations. If you think you got what it takes, and want a challenging career helping us to “Make Berkshire Safer”, then follow the links to the right:
