Safety guidance for speakers of other languages

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) aims to increase fire safety education to groups which may be harder to reach, by promoting fire safety awareness and helping people to call for help from the emergency services if needed.

Our English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) programme is designed to reach the sections of our community where the knowledge and understanding of fire safety may be low and where language may be a barrier to accessing services.

Tutors and education providers

Tutors tend to have a closer interaction with many higher risk minority groups, and they can help RBFRS to raise fire risk awareness, reduce deaths, injuries and damage from fire.

We will work with you, providing a tutor induction, training materials, a visit to a local fire station, including the demonstration of a fat fire (showing the danger of adding water to a hot oil fire), and offer a Home Fire Safety Check for students’ in their place of residence.
