Have you dreamt of being a firefighter?

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) will shortly be looking for new wholetime (full-time) firefighters. If you have ever dreamt of being a firefighter then this could be just what you are looking for.

RBFRS can offer a satisfying, exciting and varied career as a wholetime firefighter. When firefighters are called to a ‘shout’ they could be dealing with any type of major or minor incident including: road, rail or air crashes, floods, chemical spills, rescuing people trapped in confined spaces and of course, fires. This requires a range of personal skills such as; understanding, reliability, flexibility and the ability to work in a team.

RBFRS is looking for people who can work effectively in the community and are as good at educating and inspiring others as they are at dealing with emergencies. Firefighters should be good communicators, practical, resourceful and enjoy working in a team, as one of RBFRS’ commitments is to maintain a cohesive, high performing team working as one for the people they serve.

Martyn Ainsworth, Development Firefighter, who recently completed his training at Whitley Wood Training Centre, said: “Initially, I thought getting through the recruitment process to become a firefighter was going to be tough but the training was on a whole new level, it really got me to push myself to my limits.

“All my expectations of being a firefighter at RBFRS have been exceeded and I look forward to going to work, I don’t know many people that can say that.”

The recruitment for wholetime firefighters is restricted to individuals who live within a 30- mile radius of the centre of Reading (to see if you would be eligible, use the postcode; RG1). This enables everyone within Berkshire and some surrounding areas to apply. RBFRS welcomes applications from members of the community including both men and women. If you have a disability, please contact us to discuss any adjustments that we could make that would remove any unnecessary barriers to you becoming a firefighter.

Recruitment will commence on 30 September at 9am when candidates can request an online application here. Please do not try to access the web address before 9am on 30 September. If you think you’ve got what it takes and want a challenging career enabling the people of Berkshire to lead safe and fulfilling lives, visit, rbfrs.co.uk to find out more.
