Firefighters deliver Christmas gifts to children in hospital

Firefighters from Whitley Wood Fire Station in Reading have helped to bring a few smiles to children who have been spending the festive period at Royal Berkshire Hospital.

On Wednesday, 20 December, the Red Watch crew from Whitley Wood brought nearly 70 presents to all the children on the Dolphin and Lion Ward and the day care unit at the hospital. They worked closely with the Ward Sister to ensure they brought suitable gifts for each child, and presents not given out on the day were left on the Ward for other children to enjoy.

It is the second year in a row that firefighters from Red Watch at Whitley Wood Fire Station have embarked on this. County-wide challenge to raise money to fund Christmas presents for children who will be spending their Christmas in hospital, instead of at home with their families.

Although the presents have been delivered, the fundraising continues, as all remaining money will be donated to the Ward to help fund the purchase of vital equipment. Last year, over £1,000 was raised to buy new equipment.

Thank you to all who have donated so far. If you would like to donate, please visit our firefighters JustGiving page, which is open until Tuesday, 2 January here: www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/santashelpersinyellow.
