Charity car wash at Newbury Fire Station

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) firefighters will be cleaning cars to raise money for two very deserving causes. Residents are invited to bring their cars down to the fire station for a dazzling shine in return for a small donation to charity.

Newbury firefighters will be cleaning cars between 10am and 4pm on Saturday 8 October at the fire station on Hawthorne Road.

The money raised will be split between The Fire Fighters Charity, which provides a range of services for fire service personnel and their families, including therapy and rehabilitation for injured firefighters and a fund that has been set up to raise money for one of the crew members disabled son who is in need of a new van.

Firefighter Brian Midwinter’s son, Tom had an accident in 2007 which left him wheelchair bound and in need of full-time care. Tom leads a very busy lifestyle but, this would not be possible without a wheelchair adapted vehicle. He wouldn’t be able to go to college, attend his medical appointments, go to the cinema, visit family or of course, meet his friends without a suitable vehicle.

Matt Frayne, Station Commander at Newbury Fire Station, said: “We are really keen to offer our support to Brian and his son. The car wash is an opportunity for us to help with the cost of a new wheel chair adapted vehicle.

“As always, we are eager to show our support for the National Car Wash event set up by The Fire Fighters Charity. We all really enjoy holding the car wash events and we hope to see lots of people there for a clean before the winter hits!”

The minimum suggested donation at the car wash is £5.

Anyone not able to attend the car wash still wishing to donate to the fund can do so at the just giving page.
