RBFRS Launches Public Consultation

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service has launched the consultation for the Integrated Risk Management Plan. The consultation will run from 2 March until 27 April.

Integrated Risk Management Planning is how we safely and effectively manage risk for the people of Royal Berkshire. With finite resources, we have to make judgements on how best to deploy these resources to most effectively respond to local community risk. Integrated Risk Management Planning includes the three key areas of Prevention, Protection and Response.

Our Prevention function helps us to prevent incidents before they happen through educational programmes, Safe and Well Visits and working with partner agencies to identify those who might be vulnerable in our community.

Our Protection function regulates and enforces fire safety legislation. This means that we work closely with local businesses and property owners to ensure that the buildings within our County are complying with Government legislation to help keep people and property safe.

Our Response function is how we respond to incidents, following four key duties: extinguishing fires; protecting life and property in the event of fires; rescuing and protecting people in the event of a road traffic collision; and rescuing and protecting people in the event of other emergencies.

In 2016/17, we produced three evidence bases for these three areas. These showed the evidence for why we use our resources the way we do, and made proposals for the next five years based on this evidence.

In order to see that we are still moving in the right direction, we have produced three new strategies with the evidence collected since 2016/17.

These strategies inform how we will target and deliver our Prevention, Protection and Response activities and we would like your feedback to help us understand your views on our plans and proposals, as we shape the way we deliver services to you.

The Chairman of Royal Berkshire Fire Authority, Councillor Colin Dudley, said: “Our consultation will allow you to have your say on our proposals for the three areas of Prevention, Protection and Response.

“We’ve made proposals throughout our three strategies, but we want you to have your say on them. Your feedback will help us to shape our strategy for the next three years.”
