Assistant Chief Fire Officer/ Director of Service Delivery Appointed

Following an extremely extensive and rigorous process, which attracted a number of extremely high-calibre candidates, Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service has now concluded the search for the Service’s next Assistant Chief Fire Officer/ Director of Service Delivery.

The successful candidate is Katie Mills. With more than 16 years’ experience in the public sector and six years within Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Katie will bring a wealth of experience and skill to this role from both outside and within the sector. Katie joined the Service as Head of Corporate Services in 2016 and during this time has led the Service through significant change programmes and for most of 2021 acted as interim Director of Corporate Services.

Wayne Bowcock, Chief Fire Officer, said: “Katie’s brings a wealth of experience from her broad background which is vital in the role of Director of Service Delivery for us to continually improve in order to provide the best possible service to the people of Royal Berkshire. I would like to congratulate Katie on her appointment and very much look forward to working with her in her role of Director of Service Delivery.”

Mark Arkwell, Deputy Chief Fire Officer, said: “I am delighted that Katie will be taking up the role of Director of Service Delivery and look forward to working alongside her. I am confident Katie will add enormous value in her leadership across the Service Delivery Team, ensure we are offering the very best services to our communities and work tirelessly to keep our staff safe and well.”

On accepting the position, Katie said: “I am really pleased to get the opportunity to be Royal Berkshire’s Director of Service Delivery. I fully recognise the importance of this key role and I am eager to support and understand how I can work together with exceptional colleagues and Fire Authority Members to enable our continuing journey of improvement for the benefit of staff and the people of Royal Berkshire.”

Katie’s appointment was ratified by the Royal Berkshire Fire Authority on Tuesday, 5 April 2022.
