Renumeration Package
The salary for post of Deputy Chief Fire Officer is between £130,146 – £156,158.
Subject to satisfactory service your spinal column point will rise by annual increments as applicable until you reach the top of your grade. Increases in salary within this range will be informed by an annual performance review with the Chief Fire Officer.
Operational Allowance
The Deputy Chief Fire Officer also receive an additional operational allowance for providing out of hours operational incident command cover and services, currently at £13,015 per annum.
Annual Leave
We offer generous annual leave 35 days. On top of that, you’ll enjoy an average of 8 public holidays each year—plus an extra 3 days of long service leave as a thank you for your commitment.
Flexible Bank Holidays
As part of our inclusive culture here, employees are welcome to request to swap designated public holidays for alternative dates that hold particular importance to their religion, culture or beliefs.
Pension Provision

Abatement and Protected Pension
If you are in receipt of Firefighter’s pension, before taking up employment with us, you are required to notify Human Resources as Abatement rules may apply.
Relocation Allowance
If you’re required to relocate as a result of your appointment, you may be eligible to claim a range of expenses to help make the move easier. The maximum amount that can be claimed is £8,000.
Car Provision
Deputy Chief Fire Officer are entitled to a vehicle for use in connection with Fire Authority business. You are entitled to a Provided Car or receive contributions towards lease car in line with the contributions for other eligible staff as outlined in the Car User Scheme.
Parking
We provide free, secure on-site parking for your peace of mind, including designated spaces for disabled drivers. If our car park is full, you can use the top floor of the nearby IKEA car park at no cost—a short, easy walk to and from the office. For those who cycle to work, we also offer a small bike storage to keep your bike protected throughout the day.
Cycle to Work Scheme
RBFA participate in the national “Cycle to Work” scheme through which its employees hire bicycles to use for travelling to and from work.
Professional Subscriptions
Individuals required by RBFA to be members of professional bodies in relation to their duties are reimbursed subscription fees.
Maternity, Paternity and Adoption Leave
We offer enhanced family leave to help you through life’s important moments. Eligible employees can enjoy up to 45 weeks of full pay maternity or adoption leave, so you can focus on welcoming your new arrival. This provides those who are eligible with up to 52 weeks full pay inclusive of annual leave, bank holidays and keeping in touch days. Plus, we provide 2 weeks of paid paternity leave to eligible employees to provide support during this special time.
Additionally, if you are undergoing fertility treatment, you will be entitled to up to 3 days paid leave per treatment cycle. Or if your partner is undergoing fertility treatment, you can apply for 1 full day or 2 half days paid leave per treatment cycle, if the treatment falls on a scheduled working day.
