Battery Fire in Thatcham

At 4:23pm on Sunday, 5 October, we received reports of a vehicle on fire on Oxford Road in Thatcham.

One Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crew from Newbury Fire Station was sent to the scene.

Upon arrival, the crew found four overheated lithium ion batteries. The crew removed the batteries from the vehicle and submerged them in water to cool them. The crew then used a thermal imaging camera to measure the temperature of the batteries.

They were on scene for approximately one hour and 45 minutes.

The crew later returned the scene twice, to monitor the temperature of the batteries and ensure the scene was safe. A further reinspection is planned.
