Boat Fire in Newbury

At 10:16am on Sunday, 17 August, we received reports of a boat fire on the River Kennet near London Road in Newbury.

Two Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Newbury Fire Station and one crew from Theale Community Fire Station were sent to the scene, alongside the Water Rescue Unit from Caversham Road Fire Station, the Environmental Protection Unit from Whitley Wood Fire Station, and one Officer. One crew from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service was also sent to the scene.

Upon arrival, crews found one boat on fire. Crews used two light portable pumps and two main jets to put out the fire. Crews also gave immediate emergency care to one person, before placing them and one other person in the care of South Central Ambulance Service. The scene was handed over to the Canal and River Trust.

They were on scene for approximately two hours and 32 minutes.
