Fire in Thatcham

At 1.30am on Tuesday, 10 March, we received reports of a fire at a nursery on Turnpike Road, Thatcham.

Two Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Newbury and crews from Theale, Hungerford, Mortimer, Whitley Wood were sent to the scene, together with a crew from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. The Aerial Ladder Platform from Whitley Wood Fire Station, the off-road water carrier from Bracknell and a small command unit from Maidenhead were also sent to this incident, alongside four Officers.

Upon arrival firefighters found two buildings involved in the fire. Crews extinguished the fire using two main jets, two hose reels and the aerial ladder platform. No casualties have been reported at this incident.

The fire is now under control, however, crews will remain at the scene for some time damping down to ensure the fire is fully extinguished. This premise is likely to remain closed at this time.

Update on 11/03/26

Due to concerns with the structural safety of the building, we are not able to conduct a full fire investigation at this time. However, we have completed external observations of the buildings and do not have any indications that the fire was deliberately caused.
