At 7:14am on Tuesday, 14 October, we received reports of a road traffic collision on the eastbound carriageway of the M4 near Hungerford.
Two Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Newbury Fire Station were sent to the scene alongside the Heavy Rescue Unit from Theale Community Fire Station and a crew from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Upon arrival, crews discovered a collision involving five vehicles, two of which were on fire. Crews used the Heavy Rescue Unit to separate the vehicles before firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus extinguished the fires with two hose reels. Two people were taken into the care of South Central Ambulance Service.
Crews were at the scene for approximately one hour before handing back over to Thames Valley Police.
