Flooding in Land’s End Ford, Charvil

At 6:20pm on Tuesday, 20 January, we were called by Thames Valley Police to reports of a car in the water at Land’s End Ford, Charvil.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Wokingham Road and Wokingham were sent to the scene, together with two Officers.

Upon arrival, crews found one car in approximately four feet of water, but the driver had managed to evacuate the car. Crews put tape up to alert others to the risk and spoke with police and the local authority. Crews were on scene for about 30 minutes.

Please avoid this route at this time.

Flooding advice:

Please take care in flood water. If water levels are high, please do not attempt to cross and find an alternative route.

• If you’re unsure how deep the water is or if there’s fast-flowing water, stop and find an alternative route – it’s not worth the risk.

• Water that’s higher than your front bumper can be too dangerous to drive through.

• If flooding does occur in your area, be careful while driving – just 30cms of flood water could be enough to move your car.

• 60cms of standing water will float your car.

• An egg cup full of water could be enough to wreck an engine.

• Floodwater can be contaminated and carry diseases.
