Service Marks 80th Anniversary of VJ Day

Friday, 15 August, marked the 80th anniversary of VJ (Victory over Japan) Day and 80 years since the end of World War II around the world. Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) commemorated this historic occasion by attending local events, and holding a silence across our sites.

At 12 noon, the Union flag was flown at full-mast across our fire stations and Headquarters, while staff observed a two minutes’ silence, in accordance with National guidance.

On the evening of VJ Day, Steve Borham, White Watch Station Manager at Bracknell Fire Station, attended a special VJ Day Parade in Bracknell Town Centre. The event included a short service of remembrance, and Station Manager Borham proudly laid a poppy wreath decorated with the RBFRS crest at the base of the Bracknell War Memorial on Princess Square.
