Service Recruiting for Summer Internship Scheme

The Service is now recruiting for its annual Summer Internship Scheme

Open to 18-year-olds from groups underrepresented within the Service, this paid internship opportunity offers young people who may not have considered a career within the fire and rescue sector an opportunity to learn about life in RBFRS.

“Our Internship Scheme, now in its fifth year, is a unique opportunity for young people to develop their skills and gain valuable work experience while working in a dynamic and exciting work environment,” said Claudia Trott, Equality Diversity and Inclusion Lead at RBFRS.

“Through the Internship, our Interns get to meet new people, gain confidence and learn skills that they can carry forward into their future careers.

“In recent years, we have worked hard to expand career pathways into the fire and rescue sector. The Summer Internship, alongside our Fire Cadets and Wholetime Firefighter Apprenticeship programmes, are just some of the ways in which we have worked to create new opportunities within the Service.”

About the Internship

This year, the Service is looking for four interns to join for five weeks in the summer, from Friday, 3 July to Friday, 7 August. As part of the Internship, each Intern will be paid an hourly wage of £11 and will work 30 hours a week.

During the Internship, the Interns will work as part of two different teams, learning more about the Service and gaining an insight into the work that goes on within a modern fire and rescue service.

The Interns will also visit several fire stations across Berkshire, meet operational crews and get hands on with some of the tools firefighters use to protect the people of the Royal County.
