Caversham Road

Caversham Road Fire Station

Caversham Road is one of the oldest and largest fire stations in Berkshire. The site is located close to Reading Station on the northern side of the Caversham Road railway bridge.

Its historic title as a County Borough of Reading Fire Station is still displayed on its front.

The site’s main building consists of three large bays which held two fire engines and a turntable ladder in the 1960s and 1970s. A gym is now located above, connected to the yard by the longest firefighters’ pole in the county.

Today, one Volvo FL8 fire engine is active at the station as well as the Service’s Water and Animal Rescue Unit. The station’s Fire Alpha II Rescue Boat responds to fire and rescue emergencies on the River Thames. The 7.5 metre Workstar jet boat is believed to be the largest inshore capacity boat in the country.
