We are pleased to announce that plans to redevelop

We are pleased to announce that plans to redevelop the Service’s Training Centre in Whitley Wood have been approved.

The facility was originally scheduled to be redeveloped in 2025 but was brought forward following a significant internal flood in 2022, where the damage was beyond economical repair.

The approved plans will see the demolition of the existing Training Centre and an aging office cabin. These will be replaced by a single two-storey, modular building.

Work on the new Training Centre is due to begin imminently, with completion and opening expected in summer 2025.

Earlier this month, Thames Valley Fire Control Service welcomed Georgina and Stacey, two new Control Firefighters.

They have now joined their watches and are serving communities across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.

A new vehicle has been added to our fleet – the Decontamination and Environmental Protection Unit.

This new vehicle is equipped to use at incidents where there is a risk to the local environment or where there is a hazard which requires our crews to operate in gas tight suits.

The Environment Agency has part funded this new vehicle, which is based at Whitley Wood Fire Station in Reading, and it will be used to support at incidents where there is a need to limit the exposure of hazardous materials to firefighters, the public or the environment.

We recently welcomed Emanuel and Anton, firefighters from Greater Stockholm Fire Brigade to Whitley Wood Fire Station.

The visit was a great opportunity to share learning and experience between our crew and their fire service. The focus of the visit was aerial capabilities, provided through our aerial ladder platform (ALP), as well as compartment firefighting tactics and other capabilities that we have at our disposal.

On the day they got an insight into our training facilities and appliances that we use, as well as the opportunity to observe our newest recruits conducting breathing apparatus search patterns in compartment firefighting.

The visit was part of a programme of visits across UK fire services and we were pleased to exchange tactics and knowledge with Emanuel and Anton.

On Sunday, firefighters from Red Watch at Wokingham Road Fire Station joined Vaisakhi celebrations in Reading.

The crew supported the event, visited the local Gurdwara and joined the procession as it passed through East Reading.

The day is organised by The Firefighters Memorial Trust to pay tribute to, and remember, those who have died or have been injured as a result of their duties, whilst serving their communities.

On Tuesday morning, Firefighters from Berkshire and @bucksfirerescue came to the aid of a trapped pony near Marlow.

Crews found the pony, Basil, stuck in a four-foot-deep trench. Using hand tools to create space around him, they then used strops and the crane on the Heavy Rescue Unit from Theale Community Fire Station to lift the pony to safety.

Firefighters across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and

Firefighters across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire are now using the same breathing apparatus sets and associated equipment, when responding to emergency incidents tackling fires or entering other hazardous environments.

More than 4,000 items of firefighting equipment has been delivered to firefighters based at the 60 fire stations across the Thames Valley.
