At 5:22pm on Wednesday, 13 May, we received a call from a local swan rescue charity to reports of an animal in need of rescue on Hambridge Road in Newbury.

One Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crew from Newbury Fire Station was sent to the scene, alongside the Animal and Water Rescue Unit from Caversham Road Fire Station and one Officer.

Upon arrival, crews found several young cygnets in a river showing signs of distress. The cygnets were rescued from the water, before being placed in the care of the swan rescue charity.

Crews were on scene for approximately one hour and 17 minutes.
