At 5:05pm on Wednesday, 22 April, we received reports of a fire on Birch Lane in Mortimer Common.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Caversham Road, Wokingham Road, Newbury, Mortimer and Whitley Wood were sent to the scene alongside an Officer and the Service’s Aerial Ladder Platform. A crew from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was also sent to the scene.

On arrival, crews discovered a hut on fire. Firefighters used four main jets and one hose reel to extinguish the fire before using a thermal imaging camera to check for hotspots.

Crews were at the incident for approximately three hours and 15 minutes before returning later to reinspect the scene.
