At 9:39pm on Monday, 24 August, Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service received reports of a fire on High Street, Maidenhead.
Firefighters from Maidenhead, Slough, Langley, Crowthorne, Mortimer, Whitley Wood, Ascot, Wokingham, Windsor, Caversham Road and Bracknell fire stations attended the incident, alongside the Aerial Ladder Platform from Whitley Wood Fire Station, an Incident Command Unit from Maidenhead Fire Station, and four Officers. Five crews from Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service also supported the response.
On arrival, firefighters found a fire within flats that had spread into the roof space of the building. Crews worked alongside Thames Valley Police to safely evacuate residents while firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used several hose reels, two main jets and the Aerial Ladder Platform to tackle the fire.
One person was placed into the care of South Central Ambulance Service.
Thermal imaging cameras and a drone provided by Berkshire Lowland Search and Rescue were then used to identify hotspots and ensure the area was thoroughly dampened down.
Crews were on scene for approximately 16 hours and 16 minutes.
One crew from Langley Fire Station later returned to the scene for a reinspection where they used a thermal imaging camera to check for hotspots.
Later, crews from Maidenhead and Windsor fire stations returned to the scene for another reinspection. They monitored the area for hotspots using a thermal imaging camera.
