At 3:11pm on Friday, 24 April, we received reports of a fire in the open on Pond Lane in Reading.
Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Wokingham Road, Ascot, Wokingham and Theale fire stations were sent to the scene, alongside off-road vehicles from Mortimer, Crowthorne and Maidenhead fire stations, the ‘Zetros’ water bowser from Bracknell Fire Station, and one Officer.
Three crews and one Officer from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service were also sent to the scene.
Upon arrival, crews found scrubland on fire. Firefighters used two extended hose reels, one main jet, two hydrants and one water relay to control and put out the fire.
They were on scene for approximately seven hours and 40 minutes.
Crews from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service later returned to the scene, where they used backpacks to dampen down hotspots.
