At 12:29pm on Sunday, 26 July, we received reports of a fire on Mortimer Lane near Mortimer.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service Crews from Caversham Road, Wokingham Road, Wokingham, Whitley Wood and Theale fire stations were sent to the scene alongside two Officers, a ‘Zetros’ water carrier from Bracknell Fire Station and an offroad vehicle from Mortimer Fire Station.

A crew from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was also sent to the scene.

On arrival, crews discovered a large field fire affecting approximately 16 hectares of farmland and some agricultural equipment. Firefighters used several hose reel jets, the Zetros water carrier and machinery onsite to extinguish the fire.  

Crews were at the scene for approximately two hours and inspected nearby cottages for heat damage before leaving the scene. They then returned later to check for hotspots.
