At 12:01pm on Saturday, 22 August, we received reports of a vehicle fire on the westbound carriageway of the M4 between Junctions 12 and 13.
Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Caversham Road, Wokingham Road, Newbury and Theale fire stations were sent to the scene alongside an Officer and the ‘Zetros’ Water Carrier from Bracknell Fire Station.
On arrival, crews discovered a fire involving a flatbed van that had spread from the hard shoulder of the motorway to a nearby embankment and hedgerow. Crews equipped with breathing apparatus used four hose reels to extinguish the fire.
Crews were at the scene for approximately one hour before handing over to National Highways.
