At 2:16am on Wednesday, 14 October, we received reports of a fire at a recycling centre on Newtown Road in Newbury.

Two Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Newbury Fire Station were sent to the scene, alongside the Aerial Ladder Platform from Whitley Wood Fire Station, one Officer, and one crew from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.

Upon arrival, crews found a fire involving one refuge container holding household electrical items. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used the Aerial Ladder Platform, one hose reel jet, and one main jet to put out the fire.

They were on scene for approximately two hours and 53 minutes.

One crew from Newbury Fire Station later returned to the scene for a reinspection.
