At 2:41am on Saturday, 18 July, we received reports of a fire on Hythe End Road in Wraysbury.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Caversham Road, Wokingham Road, Newbury, Wokingham, Ascot, Slough, Langley, Maidenhead, Whitley Wood, Windsor and Theale fire stations were sent to the scene alongside seven Officers.

They were joined at the scene by the ‘Zetros’ Water Carrier and a High Volume Pump from Bracknell Fire Station, the Aerial Ladder Platform and an Operational Support Unit from Whitley Wood Fire Station, and an Incident Command Unit from Maidenhead Fire Station.

Crews from Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, London Fire Brigade, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, and Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service were also sent to the scene.

On arrival, crews discovered a large fire at a recycling plant that spanned more than two acres and involved almost 2,000 tonnes of recycled timber and wood chippings.

Firefighters used two high volume pumps, three water carriers, several main jets and hose reels, two aerial ladder platforms and a drone to extinguish the fire. Staff at the site also provided mechanical assistance to crews to help them access the fire.

Crews also used thermal imaging cameras and a drone from Berkshire Lowland Search and Rescue to check for hotspots at the scene.

Crews were at the scene for approximately two days, 12 hours and 30 minutes.
