At 8:36am on Wednesday, 8 July, we received a call from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service to reports of a vehicle on fire on the A34 northbound between the A343 Andover Road and the A4 Bath Road.
Two Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Newbury Fire Station and one crew from Hungerford Fire Station were sent to the scene, alongside the Zetros water carrier from Bracknell Fire Station and one Officer.
Upon arrival, crews found a fire involving household waste that was on a tractor trailer. Firefighters unloaded the waste for safety, and used one main jet and one hose reel to put out the fire.
They were on scene for approximately two hours and six minutes.
A crew from Hungerford Fire Station later returned to the scene after reports of the waste starting to smoulder again. Firefighters used one hose reel to dampen down, before handing the scene over to National Highways.
