At 7:18am on Thursday, 30 July, we received reports of an incident near the Bath Road near Midgham.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Newbury and Theale fire stations were sent to the scene alongside an Officer and the Water Rescue Unit from Caversham Road Fire Station.

Upon arrival, crews found and rescued a person from a canal before working with South Central Ambulance Service to provide immediate emergency care to the person.

Tragically, the person passed away at the scene. Our thoughts are with their friends, family and loved ones at this time.

Crews were at the scene for approximately one hour and 35 minutes.
