Water rescue in Caversham

At 4:31pm on Thursday, 29 December, we were called by Thames Valley Police to reports of a person in the water at Caversham Bridge in Reading.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Whitley Wood, Theale and Wokingham Road fire stations were sent to the scene, alongside the Water Rescue Unit from Caversham Road and one RBFRS Officer.

Upon arrival, crews found one person in the water. Crews worked to rescue the person from the water and proceeded to provide Immediate Emergency Care (IEC) before handing them into the care of South Central Ambulance Service. Sadly, we have since learnt that the person has passed away. Our thoughts are with their family and friends at this difficult time.

Crews were in attendance for approximately 44 minutes.
