On Tuesday, 10 September, Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) hosted the second tri-service careers Insight Day, aimed at those leaving the Armed Forces.
The Insight day is run in collaboration with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP), which aims to help members of the Armed Forces, who are due to leave within the next two years, with their future careers.
Having taken part in last year’s event, hosted by Thames Valley Police, RBFRS is proud to have hosted this year’s event, building on the successes of the last.
The event was an opportunity for attendees to watch presentations from each of the three services, finding out about career options and the ways in which each emergency service could benefit them in the future.
After these presentations, there was an opportunity to find out more about the transition from life in HM Armed Forces from ex-service members who are currently part of all three services.
RBFRS is committed to help support employment pathways for supporting members of the Armed Forces, having signed the Armed Forces Covenant in February 2018.
The Covenant involves a number of commitments, such as supporting members of the Reservists, promoting that we are an Armed Forces friendly organisation and supporting leaving members of the Armed Forces in their future employment.
This commitment was evidenced when, in August 2018, RBFRS was awarded the Silver Award in the Ministry of Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, which is given to organisations who actively support members of the Armed Forces.
Che Scott, the Armed Forces Liaison Officer for Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We are proud and privileged to have hosted this year’s tri-service career Insight Day. It is an invaluable opportunity for members of the Forces to find out how they can put their skills to use in the emergency services, who undoubtedly benefit from their experiences.
Councillor Angus Ross, the Fire Authority sponsor for the Armed Forces, who was also at the event, added: “We are looking forward to strengthening our ties with the Career Transition Partnership and providing even more support to ex-service members. This is all part of our ongoing activity which we hope will result in a Gold Award in the Ministry of Defence Employer Recognition Scheme in the near future.”
