Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service Firefighter Apprentices Charity Cycle Challenge

On Sunday, 7 May, the team of new Firefighter Apprentices from RBFRS will collectively cycle 500 miles – the distance from Windsor Castle to Balmoral Castle in Scotland to raise money for The Firefighters Charity.

Firefighters will complete the static cycle challenge from two locations in Berkshire – Broad Street in Reading and The Lexicon in Bracknell.

The Fire Fighters Charity provides an extensive range of services for fire service personnel and their families, including therapy and rehabilitation for injured firefighters.

The Firefighters will be cycling the distance for two reasons. The first is to Scotland in memory Barry Martin, who worked as a firefighter in Scotland Fire and Rescue Service and tragically lost his life on 27 January 2023 following injuries sustained during firefighting operations at the Jenners building in Edinburgh on 23 January 2023. The second is to mark the coronation of King Charles III, as they cycle from his Windsor residence to his residence in Scotland.

The Firefighter Apprentices stood next to a Fire Engine.

Station Manager, Adam Brailsford, said: “We would appreciate your support in advance or on the day by donating to this worthwhile cause. You can donate on the JustGiving link or on the day, with collection buckets available. We would be grateful for any kind of donation, no matter the size as it all goes to a fantastic cause.”
