Values and Culture in the Fire and Rescue Services

His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS) has produced a report on values and culture in all 44 fire and rescue services in England. This report is available on their website.

The report contains extremely serious and concerning allegations of bullying, harassment and discrimination within the sector.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service Senior Leadership Team will now be working at pace to understand where the Service sits against the recommendations.

While the report highlights systemic issues that require Government and sector-led change, the Service would like to reiterate the ongoing commitment to ensure that everyone that works at RBFRS is treated with dignity and respect.

Swift and robust action will be taken where unacceptable behaviour is found to have taken place. There is absolutely no place for any form of discrimination, harassment or bullying in the Service.

UPDATE

Given the importance of this work, the recommendations contained within the culture reports will be managed through our Programme Board as part of the newly formed RBFRS Development Programme. This will ensure robust management and transparent reporting on progress made in these areas.
