Following a successful pilot in 2023, we have announced another series of exciting Discover a Career as a Firefighter Sessions to help potential applicants find out more about the role.
The sessions provide an ideal opportunity to come along to find out more about the role, the application process and what life at a fire station is like.
If you don’t know much about the fire and rescue service at the moment – don’t worry! These sessions have been designed to give anyone a flavour of the role – whether you’ve thought about it before or not.
Options for sessions begin on 30 April 2024 and run until 29 June 2024. All sessions are free to attend.
Overview of the sessions
We are offering four sessions, which will be held both online and at our fire stations across Berkshire. You are welcome to attend the session that is most convenient for you. We would encourage you to attend one session from each of the below to give you a thorough overview of the role and what the recruitment process involves.
- Session 1 – About the role. Whilst there is no typical day in this job, this session will provide you with an overview of the role of a modern Firefighter and what training is provided to successful applicants.
- Session 2 – About recruitment. Firefighting is a popular career option, so this session is designed to give you all you need to know about the recruitment process and how you can give yourself the best possible chance of success.
- Session 3 – Station tour and demonstrations. In the third session, you will have an opportunity to visit a local fire station and meet some of our Firefighters.
- Session 4 – Have a Go events. This is an opportunity to try some of the physical tests that you’ll need to pass to become a Firefighter.
