Two Berkshire Firefighters became the first to run to all 12 of the county’s Wholetime Fire Stations to raise money for The Fire Fighter’s Charity.
Firefighters Martyn Ainsworth and Shaun Foley, based at Newbury Fire Station and Wokingham Road Fire Station respectively, completed the ‘Station 2 Station’ ultramarathon on Monday, 12 May.
Starting at Newbury Fire Station, the 58-mile run took the pair across the county where they visited every single fire station, finishing in Maidenhead at 8:51pm after doubling back from Langley Fire Station at the very east of Berkshire.
Speaking on the challenge, Martyn said: “I’d like to thank everyone who supported Shaun and I as we took on this challenge. It was great to be welcomed by crews at stations across the county and we’ve already smashed our initial fundraising target. So again, thank you all for the support.
“I recently used The Fire Fighters Charity after picking up quite a severe injury. With the help of physical therapists at one of the Charity’s centres, I was able to get the help I needed to recover and return to my work as a firefighter. This challenge was a way to give something back after all the help they gave me.”
So far, the pair raised have raised over £3,100 for The Fire Fighters Charity. The Charity provides vital support to serving and former staff of fire and rescue services across the United Kingdom.
