Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

To enable the people of Berkshire to lead safe and fulfilling lives Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) recognise the diversity of the population it serves and the staff it employs. Our aim is to provide services that meet the needs and expectations of local communities.

We want to build an inclusive workforce which reflects the communities we serve at all levels, where all staff are motivated and treated with respect, and where they receive equal pay for equal work, throughout the organisation.

We endeavour through the development of modern feedback tools to ensure that we deliver the same high quality services to all sectors of the community in accordance with their needs.  We are committed to analysing and publishing the results of all such monitoring and to taking corrective action where required. In doing so RBFRS will meet the requirements of the specific duties of the Equality Act 2010.

In all of these activities, we aim to eliminate discrimination and value diversity in respect of all nine personal characteristics as identified in the Equality Act 2010. We develop a workforce that treats both fellow employees and the public with respect and fairness, and will thoroughly investigate any complaints raised.

RBFRS will ensure that it publishes and processes any information in line with the Data Protection Act and details will not be individually identifiable unless the organisation is specifically required to do so under the Transparency Regulations.

Consultation is an essential component of our legal duties as a public body and RBFRS is committed to consulting with the community, employee representatives and stakeholders in order to improve services and promote equality in employment.
