Young Firefighters Help People who are Homeless in Reading

Young people on the Young Firefighters programme at Whitley Wood Fire Station have held a collection for people who are homeless in Reading.

The young firefighters, all aged 12-16, have collected food, clothing and toiletries to help feed people and keep them warm as Winter continues. All of the items were donated by family, friends and neighbours of the young people, who wanted to help support the young people in this worthwhile cause.

After the collection was complete, the items were given as part of a larger collection in Reading, organised by local residents Gavin Davidson and Kellie Carter.

Kellie Carter said: “Absolutely speechless with the effort that the young fire cadets and firefighters from Whitley Wood Fire Station have put in to help us with this project. Thank you so very much, we are totally overwhelmed.”

Lee Glover, Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service Lead Instructor said: “Helping the homeless this Christmas was recognised by the cadets as being a very worthwhile cause and one that is extremely important to the local community. We would like to thank everyone who contributed.”
