Bracknell firefighters will be welcoming some special guests from a galaxy “far far away” for a charity car wash, in an effort to raise as much money as possible for two very worthy causes.
The car wash will take place at Bracknell Fire Station on Downshire Way on Saturday 4 March, between 10am and 4pm to fundraise for the John Radcliffe Hospital (Kamran’s Ward) in Oxford and The Fire Fighters Charity.
Visitors to the car wash will not only get their car cleaned by firefighters at the station, but they will also get the chance to see the day’s special guests, which is certain to be a real treat for fans of the Star Wars franchise, owned by Disney. Various characters from Star Wars will be at the station, provided by UK Garrison, which is one of the leading Star Wars costuming groups in the UK, who often attend charitable events to raise money for good causes.
The suggested minimum donation is £5 per car and donations will be split between the two charitable causes.
Kamran’s Ward is a children’s ward at the John Radcliffe Hospital that specialises in haematology (blood disorders) and oncology (cancer) services. The money will go towards supporting the hospital to fund the latest medical equipment, research and facilities to support children like Harry Balaam from Bracknell, who was diagnosed with a rare cancer called Burkitt's Lymphoma.
The Fire Fighters Charity provides a range of services for fire service personnel and their families, including therapy and rehabilitation for injured firefighters. Donations help the charity to continue in the provision of life enhancing services to the fire and rescue community.
Richie Sage, Crew Manager on Green Watch at Bracknell Fire Station, said: “I’m sure the force will be strong here on Saturday, thanks to our special guests and hopefully this will encourage more people to visit the station. After all, we’re fundraising for two very worthy causes so we’d welcome as many people as possible to get involved.”
