Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) is pleased to announce that it will be hosting the second in-person Armed Forces Veterans’ Hub Event, which will take place on 30 March 2022 at Whitley Wood Fire Station in Reading, 10am-12pm.
The theme for this event is transferable skills, and attendees will be able to observe our new firefighter recruits demonstrating the skills they have learnt and developed as they join the Service. During the morning, attendees will also hear from speakers who have been involved since the inception of the Veterans’ Hub in Berkshire and transferred skills from Armed Forces to civilian roles themselves.
The Armed Forces Veterans’ Hub is open to all veterans. At this event, attendees will be able to speak to a range of organisations and charities that support the armed forces community and each other.
The Armed Forces Veterans’ Hub was launched in Royal Berkshire on Saturday, 7 November following receipt of the Gold Award in the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme in 2020. This affirms the Fire Authority and Service’s ongoing commitment to the Armed Forces community.
Chairman of Royal Berkshire Fire Authority, Councillor Colin Dudley, who will open the event, said: “I’m delighted to be able to be attending another Veterans’ Hub event hosted at our fire stations, which will offer a space for veterans to come together and meet one another, as well as the wonderful organisations who will be there.
“At Royal Berkshire Fire Authority, we are committed to supporting our armed forces community and placing our fire stations at the heart of the local community they serve. Hosting the Hub meetings is just one of the ways we are fulfilling both commitments, while also meeting some fantastic new people along the way.”
Armed Forces Champion, Councillor Angus Ross, said: “”I am incredibly proud that we will be holding our second in-person Veterans’ Hub and that we are holding it in a different part of the County. I am very fortunate to have been involved since the launch in 2020 and as ex-armed forces myself, I know the value that these Hub meetings can offer through the network of people available and sources of support.
“As national COVID measures relax, we hope that more veterans will feel comfortable to mix with colleagues at the Hub events. We plan to have a different range of advice from support organisations on 30 March and I look forward to meeting veterans on the day.”
